The black-and-white pig living in the woods.
The Cinta Senese breed is usually identified with the immortal fresco “The Allegory of Good and Bad Government” by Ambrogio Lorenzetti located in Siena Town Hall. In the landscape of that painting one can clearly see this peculiar pig breed that is black and white in colour and bred in the wild. Over the years its breeding has been almost abandoned in favour of the large white breed, these two breeds have been mixed to obtain the grey pig breed.
In recent years, Cinta senese has received new interest due to the quality and flavour of its meat. In the woods of San Casciano dei Bagni, its breeding is still widespread thanks to small family businesses.
